A burglar who stole children’s toys as well as high-value office kit will spend Christmas on remand – after no interpreter was available for his sentencing.

Kellie Enever, defending, told Judge Maria Lamb on Friday that there was no Polish interpreter available for her client. Although he had ‘conversational’ English and was keen to be sentenced, she raised concerns about going ahead without an interpreter.

Judge Lamb agreed, telling Peotrovskae: “I am sorry that it’s not possible to deal with your sentencing hearing here today. But it is sensible you have the services of an interpreter so there is no misunderstanding about anything.”

The case will be heard on January 6, when Peotrovskae is expected to be sentenced. As he was taken down from the dock on Friday afternoon he thanked the judge.
