Inquest jury for three deaths at HMP Lowdham Grange considering verdicts
The Jury in the Coroner’s Inquest into three deaths in HMP Lowdham Grange from 2023 has now been sent out to consider their verdicts. The Inquest opened on 4th November 2024, and resumed after the Christmas break early in January.
The three men, who had all suffered self-inflicted deaths, were Anthony Binfield, 30, who died on March 6th, 42 year old Dave Richards on the 13th, and 49 year old Rolandas Karbauskas on the 25th. Rolandas, a Lithuanian, had a very limited understanding of the English language but no interpreters were brought in to translate for him. “Thebigword” translation system was not working and so officers got other Lithuanian prisoners to interpret for him, which the Coroner pointed out is against guidance because people are hesitant to speak openly about their insecurities in front of fellow inmates.
