Interpretation and Translation Service was brought in house on November 1 2017
and is now being delivered under a new service model, which is delivering an

“NHS Tayside has a
core of employed interpreters who focus on the provision of face-to-face
interpreting for the three top languages – British Sign Language, Polish, and
Arabic.
“Other spoken
languages are provided through a contract with an agency which has been
procured through the Scottish Government Interpreting, Translation and
Transcription Services Framework Agreement.
“The new model has
been very successful with the service providing interpreters to 99% of
interpreting requests. This has had a direct impact on the number of patients
who are able to attend appointments, which has reduced the number of
cancellations. This has a direct impact on improving health outcomes, reducing
health inequalities and also saving resources from unnecessary cancellations.”
