Criminal's sentencing delayed after interpreter organised from the wrong country
Andrei Giugiuc, aged 26, was due to face justice after attacking a man, telling a policeman he would kill two people and being in possession of a wooden bat in Oswestry.
Giugiuc, a Romanian national, appeared at Shrewsbury Crown Court for his sentence, but a Polish interpreter had been organised for him by mistake.
Rob Edwards, representing Giugiuc, said: "He is able to follow some English, but not enough to follow court proceedings.
"An interpreter attended court to assist, however they were an interpreter for the Polish language and were not able to help in this case.
"He (Giugiuc) is anxious to find out what his sentence will be."
Judge Peter Barrie told Giugiuc: "I am very sorry about the situation. We cannot proceed today without you fully understanding what is happening. We will deal with it as soon as we can."
He ordered for the case to be re-listed for as soon as a Romanian interpreter can be organised.
Giuciuc, of Llys Road, Oswestry, previously pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm, possession of an offensive weapon and two counts of making threats to kill.
He was remanded in custody until his sentencing.
