Nepalese officer Kumar Lama torture trial adjourned
The trial of a Nepalese army officer accused of torture has been adjourned because a qualified interpreter was not available for the Old Bailey hearing.
Lt Col Lama was arrested in the UK on charges of torturing two civilians at an army barracks in west Nepal in 2005, during the country's civil war.
The Nepalese army officer who now lives in St Leonard's, East Sussex, denies the charges.
The trial, which began last month, has been adjourned until August.
Lt Col Lama was serving with the United Nations peace keeping force in South Sudan when he was arrested while visiting his family in East Sussex in January 2013.
He was arrested under Section 134 of the Criminal Justice Act, a law that defines torture as a universal jurisdiction.
