To ask the Secretary of
State for Justice, what the annual value is of the private contract to provide
interpreters to courts in England and Wales; and how much is spend on each region
on that contract.

The Ministry of Justice has
two contracts which provide face to face interpreting services to courts and
tribunals, Lot 1 (Face to Face, Telephone and Remote Foreign Language
Interpreting) and Lot 3 (Face to Face and Remote Non-Spoken Language
Interpreting). These contracts began on 31st October 2016 and make
provision for the Ministry of Justice, her Agencies and Arm’s Length Bodies as
well as other organisations such as the Crown Prosecution Service to procure
these services.
The spend in the first year
of these contracts (31st October 2016 – 31st October 2017)
was as follows, with the spend relating to Her Majesty’s Courts and Tribunals Service bookings
