Courts: Interpreters
Ministry of Justice written question – answered on 27th December 2017.

Richard Burgon Shadow Lord Chancellor and Shadow Secretary of State for Justice
To ask the Secretary of State for Justice, what estimate has he made of the number of unfilled cases since the contract to provide interpreters to all courts was contracted out; and if he will make a statement?

Phillip Lee The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Justice
I have provided the number of unfilled cases in my response to Question 120475. The number of overall unfilled bookings is available in the published Criminal Court Statistics at the following link: https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/criminal-court-statistics-quarterly-july-to-september-2017
Table L1 in Languages interpreter and translation services show the number of unfulfilled requests has continued to decrease since 2013.
The department continues to monitor its language service services contract closely with the suppliers to drive improvements and reduce the cost on the taxpayer.
