SIR – For the Home Office
to be aware of substantial contractual problems with G4S two weeks before the
Olympics can only indicate a failure in the corridors of power.
A similar
situation is continuing in the Ministry of Justice, which contracted out court
interpreter services. In the five months since, hundreds of cases have been
adjourned due to a lack of interpreters and some trials have collapsed.
In the House of
Lords last week the minister responsible admitted that the envisaged saving
would not be met, but no one in authority appears to be taking urgent and
remedial action against the contractor.
